Software licensing: Silvaco license models and what each includes

Find the Silvaco license that fits how your team runs its tools, see what the fee covers, then set it up with your regional sales team.

Two ways to license commercially

Commercial, research and academic customers all license Silvaco software. If you’re buying for a company, you choose between two models: leases on individual tools, or one license across TCAD.

  • Time-Based Licensing

You run a license server, and it hands licenses out to the workstations and compute servers on your local or wide area network.

    • Industry standard 1, 2, or 3 year lease terms
    • Server-based floating license only
    • License fee includes product updates and technical support
  • Victory Omni License

One license opens any Silvaco TCAD tool to your process and device engineers for an affordable, fixed annual fee. They run one tool at a time.

    • 2D or 3D simulation, whichever your work needs
    • Mixes with term-based licenses you already hold for individual tools and modules
    • Usable at every company site inside the region you bought it for
    • Software maintenance included

What the Victory Omni License covers

Every framework in Silvaco TCAD, with a single exception.

  • Not covered: Interactive Tools

Interactive Tools, the pre- and post-processing and visualization tools, fall outside the Victory Omni License.

Universities and license servers

  • Academic licensing

Universities license teaching and research separately, on academic terms, under the TCAD Academic Omni License and the EDA Academic Suite. The University Program handles who qualifies, the restrictions and how to apply.

  • Platforms and the license server

Your license covers Silvaco products on every supported hardware platform. You set up the license server at installation: Silvaco’s own Floating License Manager (SFLM), or FlexLM from a third party. Installation and OS Support lists supported platforms and which SFLM and FlexLM versions each release needs.

Silvaco license questions

Every Silvaco license is either commercial or academic. Companies pick from two models. Time-Based Licensing leases floating licenses on one-, two- or three-year terms, served from your own license server. The Victory Omni License gives you Silvaco TCAD for a fixed annual fee. Universities have an academic track of their own for teaching and research.

It’s a single annual license that lets your engineers run any Silvaco TCAD framework, one tool at a time. The fee is fixed, and it covers 2D or 3D work at every company site within your purchasing region. Maintenance comes with it. Interactive Tools are the one part of TCAD it leaves out.

A lease of one, two or three years on industry-standard terms, as floating licenses only. Your license server shares them across the machines on your network, so a seat goes wherever the work is. The lease fee already pays for product updates and technical support.

Yes, for accredited universities that grant degrees. Research runs on low-cost licenses, while teaching gets curriculum packages that cover every student in a class with one license. The two bundles are the TCAD Academic Omni License and the EDA Academic Suite. Institutions in the Americas apply to academicsales@silvaco.com, and those elsewhere through their local Silvaco office.

Yes for Time-Based Licensing, where updates and technical support are built into the lease fee. The Victory Omni License comes with software maintenance, and your regional sales team will confirm exactly what that covers on your contract. Academic licenses include software updates, but Silvaco gives them no technical support.

Yes. Keep term-based licenses for the tools and modules your team runs hardest, and let the Victory Omni License cover the rest of TCAD alongside them. You get broad access and dedicated seats at once. Your Silvaco sales team works out the split with you, project by project.
